The Storage.co.uk Award 2011-12 for Photography

A picture says a thousand words, or so the old saying goes. Yet many self storage companies still don’t recognise how important having attractive, interesting photography on their websites can be.

For many potential self storage customers, time is everything. They will not be prepared to digest reams of text describing the services offered by a particular firm on its website, which is why it is vital for all self storage providers to have the right pictures.

Storage.co.uk set up the Award for Excellence in Photography to emphasise the virtues of high-quality self storage photography, and reward those companies that have got it right.

Our official criteria said we were on the hunt for “artistic merit in photographs portraying the self storage industry”. Below are the five companies which we felt did this best:

A-Storage – One of the few UK self storage firms to have made good use of Facebook as a medium for displaying photos, this Dorset-based company carries an attractive range of images on its profile page, including ones showing their self storage facility in the snow, and several containing their enthusiastic staff. http://a-storage.co.uk

Folkstone Storage – A self storage firm with a dedicated photo gallery on its website, Folkstone Storage’s images convey the attractive architecture of their self storage facility, both interior and exterior, giving the customer a clear idea of what they can expect when they get there. www.folkestone-storage.co.uk

LocknLeave – A series of very impressive-looking photos depicting LocknLeave’s container self storage units impressed the judges. Often using only the sky as a backdrop, these images make the containers themselves embody the qualities of strength, durability and reliability which their customers expect, creating a great selling tool. www.locknleave.co.uk

Rossendale Self Storage – Bright, attractive pictures of the interior of Rossendale Self Storage’s Lancashire facility adorn the homepage of their website, instantly making the potential customer feel right at home. Particularly impressive is the lighting, which manages to give everything in these images a warm sheen of success – even when they depict corrugated steel!  www.rossendaleselfstorage.com

Whiteball Self Storage – This self storage firm includes a number of attractive photos of its facility on its website, valuable for letting the customer know exactly what they will be getting when they store there. Whiteball Self Storage has achieved the admirable feat of extracting the maximum artistic effect from its ranks of blue self storage containers. www.whiteball.co.uk

Very good idea to put up good pictures. The visibility of doors is supposed to be important in promoting self storage so photos are really key now that people are shopping online for storage.

The problem some people have is there is no storage space at home for items later needed. Is there web sites to gain that extra space at home, like attic boarding, extra cupboards etc. Dtails of local trade companies to help. Also to be able to damp proof garage and water proof storage containers may help.
